"This one's for the firmware fans out there; Sony's just released an update for the PlayStation 3 – number 3.42 for those keeping score – which ramps up the security measures for the console.

There are no new features as such aside from the increased security that effectively shuts out the jailbreak which had just recently come out into the open, and you'll need to install it in order to connect to PlayStation Network.

The jailbreak – activated via a USB dongle - allowed owners to copy games on to the PlayStation 3's hard drive – but more nefarious minds could also use the crack to obtain and play illegally obtained games.

The update is available now, so lovers of the PlayStation 3's update bar will have something to look forward to next time they switch their consoles one."

Wow I'm surprised they shut that down fast, but what they can take from this is to allow people to copy their own game discs and allow them to upload for backing up. You'd have to verify the game disc by going online then they give you the download all just in case if the original game disc get's wrecked, something that could help those out there who get this problem.

Leo I moved your post here we are keeping all ps3 jailbreak stuff in 1 thread for organization

but as the turtle said new 3.43 FW yesterday that stops jailbreak... temporarily,

2 fixes.... either dont go online or use LogansSTool to bypass sonys update (application and instructions already posted previously by me on last firmware update... goggle is your friend)

You can still play online with FW 3.41 with loganstool if you want to stay on the exploitable FW.

and for inquiring minds.... the psp port of jailbreak will not work. iphone and droid users its still being worked on.... if you have a nexus one goggle phone. a nokia n900 or a TI-84 (and ONLY 84) graphing calculator you can use those to hack your ps3 until the usb dongles start shipping.

the jailbreak is done by mimicing a usb device, more specifically it acts has a usb hub using several fake usb adapter protocols to trick the ps3 in to a bit of a debug mode allowing software install (which allows playback of back up games)

Im not posting directions for a ton of diff methods but if someone wants help or has a ? or more info to contribute please do so (keep it in 1 thread though please for sake of clarity and less confusion)

on paper a bypas is skeptical as if it fails you get updated and lose all your backed up games. however with logan it uses the proxy... and in the ps3 xmb setts you can tell the ps3 to ONLY use the dnas server that is your proxy... so theoritcally should loganstool fail it just wouldnt allow you online, it wouldnt allow sony in to do the update.

playstation is their flagship and they will be vigilant. they claim the psps sole reason for failure was piracy... they will not under in means just bend over and take it like nintendo. they already removed linux via an update to avoid a hack like this.

its proposed they might remove debug mode alltogether from consoles in a firmware update later however they will make life in their repair centers quite hectic, it would be a cutting off your nose despite your face type of move but if they cant fight it any other way that will prob happen.

in any event their system is still vulnerable right now weither you use this or not, b/c of it you can start counting on FW and game updates every 1-2 weeks now instead if every few months.

off i recall that sony lawsuit. i also remember they got in trouble having their own pripritary media player that autoinstalled on all their CDs(software and audio) i cant remember if the 2 are related or not though its been many years.But i do recall their CDs not playing in normal audio players like windows media/ winamp on your PC along time ago you had to use their own stuff it was a pain.

piracy killed the psp?...

yeah sure... it's not like the ipod and Iphone took the whole market over...
it's not like nintendo have had the DS at a resonable price for a longer time and that their games are more fun and cheaper...
its not like the economy suffered but yet we still have 3 big consoles raging war at eachother, with expensive title and tons of overpriced accessories...

the psp came out way too expensive, in a time where it had little chance of winning a war agains't Nintendo and Apple
in an already saturated market. But they wanted their share of that market.
connectivity between the psp and ps3 is nice. but its something nintendo had been doing for years.
sonny is a step behind in handheld console and they know it.
However the psp has not really failed, it is very present, and its opening the way for their next gen hanheld console.
Im sure they have reached their goal with it.

But when it comes to piracy they will blame anything on it and use any means to go agains't it.

they won't talk about Nintendo for sure.. cause they have been trying to crush that bug for a long time.

1983 nintendo system comes out in japan. sega also came out with their console..
1985 out in the US. it wasnt such a big hit at first. sega came out with their master system which was comparable to the nes in specs
1986 the nes is out in canada. theres also a big boom and the worldwide marketing campain pays off.
Nintendo had most of the market of video games.
it was a bigger hit then attari and colecovision in the 70's
they have very cool accessories too, the nes blaster being the most memorable one and the wii remote ancestor, the power glove.

war between Nintendo and Sega too both companies to develop better games and systems.

They were developing the playstation by the end of the 80's



So when they learned that Nintendo wasn't going with cd drives for the next gen after super Nintendo.
And that sega was, Sony started making aliances with game companies to have exclusivity on games.

so Sony pulled out the playstation in 95, with cd drive
one year before the release of the N64. it was very calculated.
wasnt the biggest hit right away. but it gave them time to reach out to game companies to get good games going before the N64 reached the Market.

Squaresoft had been working closely with nintendo for years. FF7 was in devellopement in 94 and was intended to be another 2d game. Chono Trigger was being develloped at the same time by the same people in squaresoft. Alot of the ideas for FF7 ended up in Chrono trigger instead. Devellopement for ff7 came to a stop and chrono trigger was released in 95 for super nintendo. Then they started back on FF7, butin those 2 years thecnology had advanced greatly. they wanted to be the first to have the best first 3d rpg game out and they were unhappy that Nintendo was passing up cd drives and were still going with cartriges for the N64.

Their next game (final fantasy 7) was too much for a system like the N64. so their was a big fuss with nintendo and they parted ways.
so they developed it for the playstation system.
Konami also left nintendo behind for metal gear solid.

sony invested alot in the marketing of final fantasy 7.
i remember the subway stations here being plastered all over with posters. also couldnt open the tv without seeing a comercial about ff7.

in 97 when ff7 came out, over 2 million copies were sold in japan in the first 3 days.
this helped sony alot.
over 300 000 copied in the US were sold in the first week it came out here.

people were litteraly buying the game, then buying a playstation to go with it.

Sega almost died in the mid 90's because of all that.

So more and more developed very good games for playstation. Sony was over Shadowing Nintendo, sega, 3d0, everyone.

Nintendo came back with a fun little thing called the gamecube. with very good games, metroid coming back after a long time.
they made a lot of money as the system was very unexpensive. and games were cheaper. the gameboy had conectivity with it.
nintendo was coming back

by that time Ps2 was out by then and even if it came out for 700$ in the beginning, they were selling like hot bunsa and still over shadowing everyone
xbox was out and people were laughting at it cause it was crashing...
but microsoft was big and they wanted what Sony had. and they had been developing games for pc for a long time.

so now we have the wii, unexpensive and fun concept, but cheap ass games.
sony sees the potential for the next wii so the sony move is out.. copying nintendo yet again.
microsoft is solid with the 360
sony is on top with the ps3
and nintendo is always full of surprises.

so sony just want all the market, they are very agressive. that's why they put the blu ray in their ps3, to kill the hd dvd that was being developped by microsoft and friends. thats why they came out with the psp to have better media capability over nintendo and apple.
but, the psp didint take over the market like they hoped. like the playstation did in 95. as nintendo is still with cartriges in the nintendo ds. Sony again tried to cut the grass under everyones feet.
but unexpectedly,
apple is winning here, downloads are the way. cheaper for developpers too, no hard copies, marketing is all online.
and they put it on phones, the one thing you have on you all day long. smart move.
now every phone is getting better and better games.

soon there will not be any hard copies in stores anymore, all internet downloads.

when nintendo comes out with a system as powerfull as microsoft and sony's, my eyes are on them.
look out for apple too. i wouldn't put it past them to come out with a gaming console too. right now they are making a lot of money with iphones, ipods ipads and, itunes downloads.

can you see a ATI logo on your wii? i can, companies are working toghether.
so you might see companies merging in the future.
apple and nintendo making a console toghether? that could be a powerfull thing.
but it would be bad for us.. thst means more ressources to fight piracy, it means more expensive consoles, games, acessories.
cause they haveto fight it, and both want their share of the profits.

so, I think we are just lucky that sony, apple, microsoft and nintendo are to busy killing eachother then working toghether fighting piracy.

all in all it makes thechnology grow faster.

the Asian companies have enormous egos, they have grudges against eachother that have lasted for centuries.
when they were familly clans before becoming companies.

Microsoft, Apple, they are very new, one spawn out of the other in a way. And microsoft owns a lot of shares in Apple.
they have more of a symbiosis relation in comparison. They like to see what the other comes up with, they like to see progress and try to do better. That's why Microsoft never tried to crush Apple for real, like all the other hardware and software companies they fought left for dead and then bought at a cheap price.

Sony, Nintendo, they just want to grow bigger and more powerfull. at any extent, they want to crush everyone.
Nintendo have always know that you get the kids you get the market, all those young kids ands familly oriented games are part of a very specific agressive marketing thecnique also it a way of making em look like the good guys. Sony's idea was, hey Nintendo have the kids, lets get the teens as nintendo don't have so many games for teens and young adults.

but all those big companies are evil. they want to suck you dry.
as evil as pusher giving you your first "free" smack shot.


which is why we must keep cheating them and copy their games and stealing from them

yes any 84 either + or silver edition apparnetly will work.. I said only b/c many are trying to do on it a 82, 83, 85 etc it must be a mini-usb port that only 84 had, not the i/o to usb ports the others are equiped with

Syn I didnt use this guide... a much easier method to get around it is to go to network setts in xmb, modify the connection you have (or make a new one i guess) but in the dnas name servers option select custom and enter 67.202.81.137

Some guys got a private server up running 24/7 so thats easier to me then having to run a app on your PC first before getting on your ps3, i tested it still hd a 9.7 mb wireless connection speed.

When you cut your unit instead of doing the system update go to network setts and your good to go I had it done in 5 mins playing killzone2 online again on FW3.41.

Ive seen some posts about this affecting mics in mw2... weither its true or not and if it applies to other games I cant say yet.. I got it working and will play kz2 shortly and ill talk some shit and see if someone hollers back

and Off its Sonys official take that the psp failed bc of piracy its not my opinion...... comparing them for what they are is more fair... the psp games are infinitly better than anything for ipads/iphones and always will be... also movies look much better on psp than any ipads.music is even i guess.

The initial psp was designed with ericson phones and it was also going to be a cell phone but that fell through had that happened it would be a different story.

After using both I can say psp movies and games and OS for that mattter are way superior to ipad/iphones... sonys blunder and the reason the psp failed is they only used memory stick duo cards instead of more popular formats like usb micro usb sd cards etc

You can get a 40gb ipad and store a ton of music with the psp you gotta carry a ton of memory sticks around and at $50 per 8gb it uses it way too quick.... the ipad won on storage alone. If users were able to have 100gb psp at a reasonable price (even thats not enough space considering it stores psp games,music,hd movies) psp would have sold millions more units. easily.

As is it would cost me like $700 worth of memory sticks to really do it up right and with a ipad its just one device they dont nickel and dime you to death.but thats sonys way they back their product to the bitter end wither or not its what the public elects to use.

I got over 120gb worth of psp games and I have to swap out on my 8gb cards if I want to play some diff games,Id love to be able to carry all my psp games, mp3 collection and a few movies for a road trip but its not economically feasible for me and prob most others

im not debating over who has a better handheld console, I was just explaining why apple took the whole market over.
of course psp is better. and the nintendo ds is better then the ipod too.
but apple managed to move in at the right time.
